BJJ, MMA & Martial Arts Academies across Texas
Before Carlos Machado arrived in Dallas in 1995, there was essentially no Brazilian jiu-jitsu being taught in the state. Machado β an 8th-degree coral belt and cousin to the Gracies β relocated from Los Angeles and set up a school in North Dallas, reportedly teaching classes at the studio where Walker, Texas Ranger was filmed. That single decision planted the root system for what is now one of the largest BJJ states in the country, with over 426 academies listed on MatMade and a competitive scene that regularly sends athletes to the IBJJF World Championships and Pan Ams.
