My two sons have been going to Gracie barra dripping Springs for almost 3 years now. Helmed by Max and Jess Bookman, GBDS has been a cornerstone for my eldest as he navigates middle school. The self-confidence that it’s given him as well as a peer group within the gym has helped sustain him when middle school life gets tough. The friendships forged on the mats, and for us mamas sitting on the sidelines, have been an unexpected gift.

We've been extremely happy with Prof. Max and the team at Gracie Barra in Dripping Springs! Our 13yr old started BJJ earlier this year and has loved it. The instructors do a great job of coaching students at all levels, the facility is nice, and the entire community of people attending seems to be very supportive and friendly. We look forward to continuing here for a long while to come!

Amazing gym, Max is a fantastic professor, all 3 of our kids love coming here. Tried several spots over the years with our kids, and Professor Max and his gym is second to none. The kids have a noticeable confidence outside the gym and some of their best friends they met at the gym. If you want your kid to have strong self defense skills for life, learn other valuable life skills along the way all while having a great time in a great community, this is the place.

My son has been attending GB Dripping Springs for over 2 1/2 years and I can’t praise Professor Max and his team enough. They are so good at explaining moves to children and make it fun while getting a great workout! The environment is so positive and friendly!

We love Gracie Barra Dripping Springs! My son (6) and daughter (7) are both part of the Little Champs program and I am part of the women’s program. Everyone is so welcoming and all coaches and Professor Max are SO great with the kids. They are kind and compassionate but also set expectations for proper behavior. Jiu jitsu can be intimidating to try (it was for me!) but Coach Jess, and everyone else, made it really easy. If you are considering it, try it! Showing up is the hardest part :)

Frequently Asked Questions

IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?

Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at GB Dripping Springs. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?

No experience necessary! GB Dripping Springs welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?

For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

Most students at GB Dripping Springs train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.

DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?

We primarily serve adult students. Please contact us directly to ask about availability for younger students — we're happy to point you in the right direction.
