Clinch Academy is an outstanding place to train! The staff and instructors are top-notch — knowledgeable, supportive, and always approachable. The training partners create a positive and motivating environment, and the entire community is incredibly welcoming. I can’t recommend Clinch enough!
The atmosphere is very welcoming and takes a lot of the trepidation out of what is an intimidating process. For me, grappling was a completely foreign experience and to start at 40 years of age gave me some hesitation, but I've been coming to Clinch for 7 years now and I've never questioned my decision. The coaches are great. They're patient and knowledgeable and very safety-conscious. The other folks training there have been awesome too and I've made some great friends. I own my own business and have a busy family life and the flexibility Clinch's schedule offers me is great. I can do lunch time classes or evening classes or just pop in for open mat. Luke runs a really nice program and I can't recommend Clinch enough.
My family has been a part of Clinch Academy for over 10 years. The results have been amazing. We have learned so many incredible skills through their classes. Our confidence has increased as we've learned how to protect ourselves, how to build solid health habits for everyday living and how to be a respectful and dedicated team player. Luke, Caty and their family have gone above and beyond to welcome us, train us and make us a part of the Clinch family. We recommend them 100%!
My daughter and I are beyond thrilled about being a new part of the Clinch family. From the warm welcome Coach Josh gave prior to signing up for the free trial membership through present day of my daughter attending classes 4 days a week, we have not been disappointed. I love that my daughter isn’t a just a number but they know her by name and they take time to work with her as well as all of the children to make sure they all understand not only the positions and movements but the purpose of them as well. At Clinch they promote a positive learning environment that pays great attention to the culture of martial arts including discipline and respect. The coaches they have working with the children are patient and the understand how to teach them so they retain what they have learned. I also love how involved the owner is with the classes and is always ready to help or assist even just in passing. I honestly could go on and on about how all the wonderful things Clinch has to offer. But if you’re looking to get your kids involved in and learn martial arts in a positive environment where they can be challenged, this is the place. You’ll see them make friends, learn, grow and become more confident individuals. What parent wouldn’t want this for their child
I've had a fantastic experience as a beginner. My coach has been very patient and helpful. Watching some of the other classes, I can say it seems like an excellent place even if you are not a beginner. I look forward to training here for a long time.
Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?
Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Clinch Academy. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?
No experience necessary! Clinch Academy welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Most students at Clinch Academy train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?
We primarily serve adult students. Please contact us directly to ask about availability for younger students — we're happy to point you in the right direction.
