Visited the week of Jan. 13th 2026. Environment was very welcoming, clean and spacious with good size classes and mat. Each training partner I worked with was nice and also a pleasure to train and roll with. I attended multiple classes with Eli Knight as the instructor and had a great time learning details on some things I had trained previously as well as many brand new techniques. I recommend anyone of any level to check out this gym and the classes there. Since I only attended Eli's gi and no gi classes I most definitely recommend those for sure and by working with the other skilled folks in the classes I attended, I'm sure the other classes are great as well. Definitely check this place out!

In an area full of amazing Jiu-Jitsu gyms, Charlotte Jiu-Jitsu Academy is top of the list. I've trained in gyms across the world and internationally, and the environment of CJJA is perhaps the best I've ever experienced. The instructors, members, atmosphere are all high-level and welcoming to all levels. Happy to call this place home, and can't recommend this highly enough.

I have visted Charlotte Jujitsu Academy open mats on many occasions and Its always impressive the level of talent this room holds has on any given weekend. Piper and his instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and care about helping their students achieve their goals. If you are in living in the charlotte area and looking to train cjja is the only correct answer.

I started training here about 5 months ago with no prior experience and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Everyone from other white belts all the way up to black belt have been incredibly helpful and welcoming. The instructors are knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions and are very hands on with showing you new things. Couldn’t recommend this more for people just starting out and experienced practitioners alike.

I dropped in for a 645am class while visiting Charlotte for work. Coach Declan ran a great class and the gym is really nice. Definitely will go again.

Frequently Asked Questions

IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?

Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Charlotte Jiu Jitsu Academy. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?

No experience necessary! Charlotte Jiu Jitsu Academy welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?

For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

Most students at Charlotte Jiu Jitsu Academy train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.

DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?

Yes! We offer dedicated programs for children and teens at Charlotte Jiu Jitsu Academy. Our youth classes focus on discipline, respect, confidence-building, and the fundamentals of BJJ in a safe, fun environment.
