Cavalcanti — one of six men promoted to black belt by the legendary Rolls Gracie before Gracie's death in 1982 — had co-founded Alliance in 1993, and when he settled in Sandy Springs and opened his first Georgia school, he anchored one of the most decorated teams in the sport's history to this state. Diego Saraiva, based in Norcross, has accumulated over 30 black belt medals at IBJJF events and runs one of the metro's most competition-focused programs.

Outside Atlanta, Savannah has a small but steady scene anchored by Serg BJJ and Gracie-affiliated schools in the Pooler area.
