About Vermont Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

At Vermont BJJ, we offer world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction under one of the most decorated BJJ instructors in the United States. A five-time Brazilian National Champion, three-time Rio de Janeiro State Champion, and two-time IBJJF World Champion, Foca trained directly under Grand Master Carlson Gracie Sr. beginning at age 17 in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.

Located in Williston, Vermont, our academy offers classes for youth, teens, and adults with a curriculum rooted in authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals, self-defense, and competitive sport grappling. We build champions on and off the mats — instilling discipline, respect, and professionalism in every student who walks through our doors.

Whether you are brand new to martial arts or you've been training for years, Vermont BJJ provides an environment of serious technical development paired with genuine human connection. Train under one of the sport's living legends and discover what authentic BJJ truly looks like.

I have trained at VT BJJ for just over a year and I love it! I had no prior martial arts experience and trying it out as an adult woman was definitely intimidating. But the instructors and other members were so welcoming, friendly, supportive, and helpful! They quickly made me feel like part of the community! The instruction is high quality, professional, safety-focused, and the mental/emotional benefits from learning self defense techniques are immense! Overall a fantastic school with an amazing community of people!

My daughter was the first to start classes when she was 8 and after my son tried the summer camp and he then wanted to do classes regularly as well. After a few months of watching them and seeing how Julio taught I had to give it a try myself. I'm so very glad I took that leap! Besides being extremely knowledgeable, Julio always has encouragement and life lessons sprinkled throughout his classes. As a woman, I feel more confident and capable not to mention healthier. My teammates are amazing humans, just excited for you to be there giving it your best. The class schedule is flexible and has a variety of options for every skill and comfort level. If you've been thinking about trying a martial art, let me give you my whole-hearted recommendation for this school.

Training at Vermont BJJ over the past six months has been a transformative experience. Julio runs an exceptional school; professional instruction, a welcoming atmosphere, and a community that genuinely supports one another. Every class is a mix of learning, challenge, and encouragement. The training partners here are respectful, motivated, and safety-minded, which creates an environment where you can push yourself without fear of injury. The workouts are incredible. Equal parts technique, endurance, and strength, and I’ve seen major improvements in my overall fitness, flexibility, confidence, and mental health. If you’re looking for a place that blends high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction with a truly positive community, Vermont BJJ is it. You’ll leave every class stronger, sharper, and happier than when you walked in. 12/10 - Would Highly Recommend.

My 4 year old daughter have been going to Brazilian jitsu in Williston, Vermont for about 4 months! It has taught her resilience, confidence, structure and my all time favorite self defense! The staff there is amazing with assisting with the children 1:1 if needed. Julio and his staff is great at making all kid feel welcome and apart the team.

As a new member to the gym and after trying some other schools, there is no place I would recommend more. Very beginner friendly gym in the intro classes with plenty of higher level classes and good rolling partners for more experienced grapplers. Great instructors and experienced training partners that want to help you learn. You receive very high level teaching in a great environment.
