Our daughter started at 4 years old now about to turn 6. She demonstrates courage among her peers and has always been excited about going to her karate class and always makes sure she says bye to sensei after every class. Love to see her take on a discipline with her peers and build her courage. She is confident she could defend herself effectively. Every employee is a family member and they make you feel like a part of it and the kids seem to love it. The kids look up to each member of the Ucelo family as they demonstrate great leadership for the kids to see how it’s done. Little Ninjas class is GREAT for kids 4 and up and they eventually transition to a solid belt.
We couldn’t be happier with this dojo. Since joining, my daughter has become much more confident and motivated, and she genuinely looks forward to every class. The senseis are wonderful—so dedicated, encouraging, and great with the kids. She’s also built meaningful friendships here, which has made the experience even better. Highly recommend!
My son has been part of this dojo since June 2023, starting with karate and adding jiujitsu in January 2025 when he turned 8. Over this time he’s grown so much in skill, discipline, and confidence. Training six days a week (sometimes with private lessons) has become something he truly looks forward to, not just because of the classes but because of the friendships he’s built that extend far beyond the mat. The dojo offers so much more than just classes. They host fun events for the kids like Ninja Night and family activities that really make everyone feel included. The sensei, his wife Mrs. Monica, and their kids are all so kind and welcoming. We’re so thankful to have found a place where our son can grow not only as a martial artist but as a person.
My kids love being apart of the Ucelo Martial Arts family. Attending this school they walk out with more than a lesson or training on the mat. They teach them more for the real world outside of class. Monica & Kikin are very family oriented, absolutely beautiful to see. I appreciate them, and love that my kids attend their martial arts school. If you have been looking for a school to attend don’t hesitate on giving this school a chance, you will not regret it, they have classes for everyone! ❤️
This place is welcoming, friendly, and overall has a great atmosphere to it. The instructors here are great, the classes are to the point and on time. I’ve trained Jiujitsu here for a year already and am excited for the following years to come!
Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?
Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Ucelo Martial Arts. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?
No experience necessary! Ucelo Martial Arts welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Most students at Ucelo Martial Arts train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?
Yes! We offer dedicated programs for children and teens at Ucelo Martial Arts. Our youth classes focus on discipline, respect, confidence-building, and the fundamentals of BJJ in a safe, fun environment.
