At Swift River CrossFit, we are dedicated to sharing the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the New Hampshire community. Our academy provides a structured, welcoming training environment for students at every stage — from first-timers stepping on the mat for the very first time to experienced grapplers sharpening their competitive game.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a ground-based martial art that uses leverage, timing, and technique to neutralize larger, stronger opponents. Whether your goal is self-defense, physical fitness, stress relief, or stepping onto the competition podium, BJJ offers one of the most complete and rewarding martial arts paths available. Our class offerings include Child, Adult, covering a range of skill levels and training goals.
We take pride in our coaches' ability to break down complex techniques into clear, learnable progressions. Our curriculum is built to give students a strong fundamental base before introducing more advanced positions and finishing sequences. Training here means joining a community that genuinely supports one another on and off the mat.

I’m most in awe of how comfortable I feel in a gym I’d never of dreamt I would be! I know it’s a CrossFit model to be welcoming but I think you all blow it out of the park! Within a couple sessions folks were saying hello using my name! Tam, specifically has been kind and encouraging in all my sessions with her, but even in classes she wasn’t running has supported me which I find very endearing. She corrects my form or spends extra time with me and doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable about that but is genuine in her delivery that I’ll get it… hmmm, will I? I’m not sure, but I sure do appreciate her smile in those times!! It’s a fun hour and one I find myself looking forward to! I encourage everyone to try it out!
At first take, I was intimidated by the overwhelming array of equipment that you do not see at the traditional fitness facility. That changed quickly when I started my orientation (Jim), attending classes(Jess, Charlie), my ambassador-volunteer coach (Sharon), and all the friendly and spirited members who encourages you to reach your goals no matter what your physical limitations or age. Who would believe working out could be so much fun! Special thanks to my daughter (Sarah) for encouraging Dad to put CrossFit at SwiftRiver in Conway N.H. on my bucket list. lol. I’ve always been a little hesitant about joining CrossFit—or gyms in general—but working with Jim at Swift River CrossFit has been a great experience. He’s super patient, encouraging, and makes everything feel approachable, even if you’re brand new. He takes the time to explain movements and really meets you where you’re at. IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS AT SWIFT RIVER CROSSFIT?
Yes — we invite all newcomers to try their first class at no cost. Come in comfortable athletic clothing; no experience or equipment needed. Just show up and we'll take care of the rest.
DO I NEED ANY MARTIAL ARTS EXPERIENCE TO START BJJ?
Absolutely not. Swift River CrossFit welcomes complete beginners every week. Our instructors are skilled at meeting students where they are and building foundational technique from the ground up. The first few months are focused entirely on core concepts.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, athletic shorts and a rash guard or fitted t-shirt work perfectly. Once you decide to train regularly, we'll help you select a gi (the traditional BJJ uniform). We provide all training equipment for new students.
HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK SHOULD I TRAIN AT SWIFT RIVER CROSSFIT?
Most students make strong progress training 2–3 times per week. Our class schedule in New Hampshire gives you the flexibility to fit BJJ around work, family, and other commitments. Consistency matters more than volume, especially early on.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS AND TEENS?
Yes. We run structured youth programs for children and teens with age-appropriate curriculum. Kids develop discipline, confidence, and real self-defense skills in a fun, safe environment. Classes are kept separate from adult training.
