I've wanted to study martial arts my entire life and have finally come to a place in my life to do that - and I am SO delighted to have found Summit. The instructors are highly experienced and top quality - they are also patient, encouraging and have built a culture that feels more like a family than a gym. They are excellent at taking you from whatever skill level you are at, to the next step, without ever making you feel embarrassed or less than. As a woman I feel 100% comfortable, safe and supported. Training at Summit is a fantastic combination of deadly serious and a ton of fun! I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who is serious about studying martial arts!
My 10 year old son has been attending Summit Martial Arts for just over 2 1/2 years. In that time his grades at school have improved where he is now taking gifted classes for students. His self confidence has increased dramatically and his respect for others including teachers, piers, parents etc. is making him into the young man he should be. His physical training as well as his self defense skills are absolutely remarkable. This is all attributed to the Summit Martial Arts School. Please DO NOT be fooled by other "martial arts schools" and their claims of progressing you and or your child to develop the skills mentioned above. I have first hand experience with other schools and tried them to only find out they will hand out awards/title belts or anything to keep their cash flow coming in. Don't waste your time or money!! Give Summit Martial Arts a try and you will find the same as I did. The facts are clear! The cost of Summit Martial Arts is less than these "so called" schools and there are no hidden fees and gimmicks unlike so many others. Our family is proud to be a part of the Summit Martial Arts Family. James Davis
Summit Martial Arts is an outstanding place to train with highly professional and knowledgeable instructors. I train adult BJJ and was concerned moving to Delaware because finding reputable gyms can be difficult (especially in small towns like Delaware) but Summit met all my needs and more. Affiliated with the Pedro Sauer Association, Summit holds its instructors and students to the highest standard and the techniques are all technically sound and taught as they should be taught in a professional BJJ gym. I love training here and can't recommend it enough.
My husband and I took lessons from Summit for years, so when our son reached a good age for karate lessons, we knew where to take him. Summit instructors are top notch. They are respectful to every student - young, old, male, female, and people with all levels of ability. They are firm, but also kind. I love how students celebrate one another's victories - climbing the wall, breaking a board, and of course earning a new belt. The schedule does change according to needs/number of students. If they begin to get too full, extra class times are added. Likewise, if numbers are low, classes will be reduced, but there are always classes Monday through Thursday. I highly recommend Summit Martial Arts.
I have been at Summit Martial Arts for over 12 years. If you are looking for someplace to learn traditional martial arts with experienced, knowledgeable instructors that will push you to be the best martial artist you can be, then this is the school for you. It is never too late - I started when I was 35 and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?
Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Summit Martial Arts. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?
No experience necessary! Summit Martial Arts welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Most students at Summit Martial Arts train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?
Yes! We offer dedicated programs for children and teens at Summit Martial Arts. Our youth classes focus on discipline, respect, confidence-building, and the fundamentals of BJJ in a safe, fun environment.
