I’ve been taking classes as an adult at Steiner Academy of Martial Arts for almost 18 months and I can’t recommend it enough. As a (petite) woman, it’s empowering to learn ways to defend myself, for I will rarely be stronger than an attacker. Shawn’s philosophy of proper mechanics wins over brute strength. He truly enjoys his students’ success and makes it enjoyable for the students too - he usually has everyone laughing. If my middle-aged, gangly, awkward self can obtain competence in this under Shawn’s and Niki’s tutelage, anyone can!

I'm a student here. I started when I was 6 years old and I'm a green belt after 7 years. Sensei and his instructors are great! This year my teacher at school complimented me for being able to work with anyone in my class. Sensei challenges us by teaching us how to teach others besides just learning the techniques. You should come to karate here because it is the best!!!

I was so Impressed with Shawn Steiner during a CCW class he taught for Nebraska concealed carry requirements that I did something I always wanted to do but thought at my age (45) and with my knees (ACL & meniscus repair/replace) that it wouldn't or couldn't work for me. Shawn assured me that there was a place for me in his academy and that I would not be his oldest student, nor would my knees be the worst infirmity among those he has taught. Mustering the courage to overcome my fears and misconceptions I started attending Fit Defense, a class that helped me gain the strength and balance in my body, mind and spirit to start attending the American Kempo Karate classes and Yoga. I so look forward to attending some of the other disciplines available to me like Kungfu and Nin Jitsu among others. The most surprising benefit I have been so grateful for has been the quality of people that fill The Steiner Academy. High quality and varied people of all ages form a strong and versatile community of kind, polite and generous of spirit people whom it has been my great pleasure and indeed honor to train with and learn from. Because all the people I have met inside Steiner Academy have been good men, women and children, without exception, I feel so much uplifted to count myself among them. The Time I spend inside Steiner Academy is the best my body feels all day. My mind is clearest and most positive as I cross the threshold coming and going from what has become a refuge and sanctuary form the crazy world, we all inhabit. The money I spend for Steiner Academy is the best spent money all month. Between the Kempo, Yoga, Fit Defense and firearms training I receive every week I cannot imagine a better value per dollar and yet there is still so much more exceptional training available that I look forward to availing myself of.
