Reviews
Our family has had a great experience at Springfield BJJ. I appreciate that the instructors put a lot of time and effort into my kids. The mat is always very clean, and any concerns we brought forward were addressed quickly. I write this review as we are taking a break from SBJJ because I would still highly recommend this gym. Brian has been great to us and I truly appreciate the time invested in my kids.
Springfield BJJ has some amazing classes. I brought my son in to train. The facility is very clean. The coaches were all very nice and the lessons were very good. I appreciate the classes and I really hope to be back!
Came in from out of town and was recommended to check this place out. Great place for a friendly drop in! The instructors and students are welcoming and provide quality training. The mat space is huge and well kept. There is even plenty of space for spectators to hang out and watch from a safe distance. Will be recommending Springfield BJJ to anyone I know coming to this area.
Springfield BJJ is an awesome place to train. The facility is clean, the people are super friendly, and the training is legit. Brian’s instruction was really solid—easy to follow and super helpful. Whether you're just starting out or have been training for a while, this place has a great vibe. Definitely recommend checking it out!
First of all, this is the cleanest gym I've trained at over the last three and a half years. A lot of effort is taken to make sure that it's a safe place to train. Bring a pair of sandals, so you don't have to fiddle with sneakers if you have to leave the mats. Jiu Jitsu can be super intimidating at first, but Brian breaks it down into manageable steps and explains not only the "how" but also the "why". I'll be the first to admit that I was nervous going in, but I've found that Jiu Jitsu hasn't just improved my physical health; it's been good for my confidence and mental health too!
Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?
Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Springfield BJJ. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?
No experience necessary! Springfield BJJ welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Most students at Springfield BJJ train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?
Yes! We offer dedicated programs for children and teens at Springfield BJJ. Our youth classes focus on discipline, respect, confidence-building, and the fundamentals of BJJ in a safe, fun environment.
