A Life-Changing Experience for Our Family I can’t say enough good things about SMA and the incredible impact it’s had on my daughter, Hazel. She’s always been an amazing kid, but the confidence, joy, and sense of belonging she’s found here have been nothing short of life-changing. Hazel comes from a big, blended family with unique challenges, and sometimes it’s been hard for her to get the attention she deserves. Wrestling has always been her outlet, but since joining SMA, she’s grown in ways that go far beyond the mat. She’s become confident, outspoken, and proud of herself. Her teachers at school even mentioned how she’s now raising her hand, leading group projects, and helping others — things she never used to do. At home, she practices constantly, keeps her uniforms spotless, and has taken ownership of her training with so much dedication and pride. One of the most meaningful changes has been the friendships she’s built at SMA. She’s found a genuine group of peers — both boys and girls — who respect and support one another. They push each other to do their best, celebrate each other’s wins, and make her feel like she truly belongs. That sense of connection and community has been so special for her. The respect, encouragement, and guidance from Jordan, Paige, Isaiah, Jake, and everyone at SMA have inspired her deeply. She looks up to each of them and carries their lessons with her in daily life. Watching her light up when she talks about class, seeing her greet coaches and referees at competitions, and witnessing her newfound confidence has truly been awe-inspiring. SMA isn’t just a gym — it’s a community, a sanctuary, and a family. The atmosphere is what I’ve longed to feel walking into every church I’ve ever been to. I’m endlessly grateful for how this place has shaped my daughter and can’t wait to see the impact of the Bully Proof Program for my son, too. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, — Megan & the Rusk Family
I had a great experience training at Spearfish Martial Arts. The community here is incredibly strong and welcoming—it’s one of the friendliest gyms I’ve ever visited. I was unfortunately only able to attend twice, once for a gi class and once for open mat, but by the end I already knew several people by name. The facility is clean, well-equipped, and clearly maintained with pride. At the end of class they even mentioned me by name, which shows just how inclusive and thoughtful the culture is. Highly recommended for anyone in the area.
SMA and the coaches are incredible. Our whole family works out and practices at SMA - jiu jitsu, taekwondo, and Mom even does kickboxing. We couldn’t rave highly enough about what SMA has done for our well being - physically, mentally, and spiritually. The community and support we’ve found at SMA is outstanding. Respect, hard work, humility, leadership, confidence, belonging, gratitude - just a few of the many amazing qualities my boys are learning through this program. Thanks to Professor Jordan and all the coaches!
Our family is super thankful for SMA, Jordan, Jake, and all of the other great coaches and families! We appreciate the strong culture that is upheld and the character, confidence and discipline that is being built as a result.
Spearfish Martial Arts has been such a great experience for our family. My boys have grown so much—not just in the gym, but in everyday life. The coaches are incredible and truly take the time to invest in each kid. You can see how much they care, and that all starts with Jordan and the passion he brings to the program. From day one, we’ve been welcomed like family, and we’re so thankful to be part of this community. We highly recommend them!
