I had a great experience training here. Friendly atmosphere and very welcoming community from day one. If you're interested in training jiujitsu in the Lakewood/Denver area, or even if you're just passing through, be sure to check out Mile High!
I’ve trained at a few schools. This one is amazing with great instructors, strong students with higher belts, and an amazing culture.
I've been training at Mile High for about 2 years, and I can confidently say it's one of the best decisions I've ever made for my physical and mental health. The instruction here is top-tier. There are several different instructors that all have their own expertise and emphasize different aspect of jiu-jitsu (self defense, wrestling, competition), but everything is rooted in real experience. The Mile High community is something special. Everyone is respectful, humble, and eager to help each other grow. The gym itself is clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this place, it's the best jiu-jitsu school in Denver.
I take Professor Matt on tour with me around the world to teach, train and help me stay in shape. A OG Gracie Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under Rorion, Ryron and Rener Gracie, I’m proud to call him a friend!
I stopped in for a nogi class today and had a really great time. As a small female, visiting new gyms can be a little intimidating, but the guys here were all great partners and I felt real welcomed.
Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?
Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Mile High Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?
No experience necessary! Mile High Gracie Jiu-Jitsu welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Most students at Mile High Gracie Jiu-Jitsu train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?
We primarily serve adult students. Please contact us directly to ask about availability for younger students — we're happy to point you in the right direction.
