About Meia Guarda Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

At Meia Guarda Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we are Delaware's only Royce Gracie Network academy, operating at 4134 N DuPont Highway in Dover. Our mission is to preserve the authentic technical and philosophical roots of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while raising physical confidence and overall wellness in the communities we serve.

Our instructor team includes three Royce Gracie black belts — head instructor Lewis King, who earned his black belt under Royce Gracie in Miami in 2016 after beginning training in 2005; Wendy Rios, the first female Royce Gracie black belt in Delaware, promoted in Raleigh in 2026 after training since 2015; and Patrick Courtney, promoted in Minneapolis in 2025. Brown Belt Mike Cowell rounds out a coaching staff with extensive competition experience in Gi, NAGA, and Good Fight events.

From KinderGrapplers for the youngest students through Adult Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals, Mastery, and Advanced programs, plus dedicated youth tracks and specialized law enforcement training, Meia Guarda provides a structured path for every student. Delaware's premier Royce Gracie affiliate is right here in Dover.

I have two boys, ages 11 and 7, who are in year 3 of training. Ronnie is a great teacher and mentor who cares for his students. Classes are very well instructed and organized. In addition to polishing their skills in self-defense, they have learned how to be more disciplined, and they have also improved their social skills by interacting with other students. Thank you, Ronnie, and the rest of the team for caring for your students and making the classes fun while crafting their skills.

My whole family trains at DCS and we love it! It brings us great piece of mind that our daughters are learning self defense techniques. The people that train there are wonderful and you will not find a Professor more dedicated to Gracie jiu-jitsu, his schools, and students. All of the instructors are awesome and the facilities are well kept. Training is offered for ages 3 and up (youth and adult classes). There are three locations: Dover, Camden, and Middletown, so there are options if proximity is a deciding factor. We feel very fortunate to have found DCS and intend to train there for many years to come!

Our family of four have now been attending this academy for 8 years. Both our children started at the academy at 3 years old in the kinder grapplers program. Not only have they grown in their knowledge with self defense and confidence, but the discipline has carried into them being successful in school and sports programs. Our experience has been incredible so far. My son is 5 and we have been looking for a facility for him to start training in.
