I’ve been looking for years for a BJJ gym - serious about Jiu Jitsu (but not crazy serious), fun and flexible for my learning schedule (older dude, professional, hobbyist) - and I found it in Grappletown. There are classes morning, lunch and evenings (even on weekends). Matt, Kale, and the other coaches are knowledgeable, fun-loving and easy going, and are always there with answers and support. Most importantly, safety is a focus. If I had more time, I’d check out the wrestling classes too but my plate is full with BJJ and my life. If you’re looking to checkout BJJ or wrestling, start at Grappletown then look around. See you on the mat!

Great studio. Coaches are awesome for all ages. The owners coach every class including the kids class. Best of all they make grappling sports fun. My sons are loving it and becoming more confident young men. Can’t wait to start learning jujitsu myself. Studio is extremely clean and a great location.

I’ve been going to Grappletown for wrestling for 4-5 months now. Personally, I have competed on some of the highest levels of the sport. I had felt my progress as a competitor in the wrestling world had come to a standstill in terms of learning. Thanks to Matt and the Grappletown community who continuously push me in the gym, I will continue to thrive in competition and have started to look at the sport in a new light. The owner is one of the most talented, legit, and down to earth humans you’ll ever meet. Not only have I encouraged my friends, training partners and people I coach to attend, but I’m also urging viewers of this post to attend. I cannot recommend this place enough. At this place of learning, not only are you directly working with someone who has won multiple World Championships in Jits, but he was an All-American at a top Division-1 level school for wrestling. Matt still has the pace and pressure to back it. Apart from the phenomenal coaching, you’ll also witness the most welcoming environment from the other participants in whichever class you attend. The instructors have truly created a place where learning is encouraged and people of all experience levels are welcome. There are classes incorporated into the schedule that fit all walks of fitness and experience levels. The Grappletown logo is more than just a fancy beacon for learning, it’s the newest family crest in the Southern Oregon Grappling community.

I have trained at many martial arts/combat sports gyms all over the US. There is no better place than Grappletown. The mats are filled with students of every level from brand new to some of the most talented grapplers you will find. The coaching staff (Matt and Kale) are some of the sweetest and caring people you will ever meet. This sets the tone for the gym. I can say through my own experience and conversations with others that Matt and Kale genuinely care about their students on an off the mat. The instruction from Matt and Kale is top notch as well. As someone who has been training at Grappletown for almost 6 months now, the growth my classmates and I have experienced is unlike the other gyms I have trained at. The kids program has grown at an impressive rate. The classes are extremely active and fun, with many coaches on the mat ensuring a safe training environment. Parents are welcome, as there are many that sit on the benches and watch. From time to time, Matt and Kale let a few of the more veteran and well spoken students teach class. These students have proven competition success are extremely knowledgeable, in addition to running pretty fun classes. Matt and Kale do an amazing job of harvesting a community of exceptional individuals that care about getting better at grappling, staying healthy and making sure everyone has a good time along the way. We are all extremely lucky to have something as special as this in Southern Oregon.

I’ve been going to Grappletown since March, and I can honestly say this is the best gym I have trained at!! I have gained so much knowledge and experience since training at this gym. I love learning from my coaches in both the wrestling and jujitsu classes. Coach Matt and Coach Kalé bring their own style to the jujitsu classes and have helped me gain a better grasp on the game since I have been there. Coach’s Kalé’s Gi class has helped me fine tune my technique, and I truly feel like his class has helped elevate my game in ways I didn’t realize I could get to. Coach Matt’s wrestling class has helped me gain a lot of confidence in my grappling game. Coach Matt’s wrestling class has also helped me develop a love for the sport. Both coaches have created a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and it genuinely feels like a family in there. I always look forward to showing up to class. Anytime I get the chance, I always tell people about the awesome things going on at the gym. That’s how much I love training here!!
