At Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Newnan, we bring authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the heart of Georgia. Located in Newnan, we are an official Gracie affiliate dedicated to teaching the principles and techniques that have defined the martial art for generations. Whether you're stepping onto the mat for the first time or returning to training after years away, we welcome adults of all experience levels to join our community.

We believe in training smart, training hard, and training together. Our instructors are rooted in the Gracie lineage and bring both technical depth and patience to every class, creating an environment where you can learn fundamentals safely while building real skills. The culture here emphasizes respect, progress over perfection, and genuine camaraderie—your training partners are your teammates, not your competition.

Our adult program is built for the working professional, the athlete seeking cross-training, and anyone curious about what Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can offer. Whether your goal is fitness, self-defense, sport competition, or simply the discipline and mental clarity that comes from consistent training, we have a place for you on the mat.

I have both my 4yo and 9yo boys in classes 3 days a week here for about 9 months. Coach Alex and Ashlynn are amazing. They do such a good job pacing the classes to keep the kids engage. Even some small but very clever tricks like playing Simon Says after initial exercises - helps the kids focus in on whats being said. Coach Alex also has good boundaries, if kids are misbehaving he does a good job getting their attention (usually pushups) in a way that is effective without being embarrassing My kids have a ton of fun and I foresee us being members for a long time

I'm a man in my 50s, and a recent event inspired me to finally learn how to defend myself. I had done Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido as a teenager, but I can’t say I ever truly felt confident in my ability to protect myself or get out of danger. About five and a half months ago, I began training in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve been consistently taking three classes a week, and due to my busy schedule, private lessons worked best for me. Coach Alex has been an incredible instructor—his teaching style, attention to detail, and emphasis on understanding the "why" behind each move made all the difference. He was patient but firm, making sure I repeated techniques until I got them right. I dedicated myself to learning BJJ, but Coach Alex’s guidance is the reason I was able to prepare for the Gracie Combatives test in such a short time. I can genuinely see myself practicing BJJ for the rest of my life. It's not only fun, but it also sets the tone for my entire day—whenever I train in the morning, the rest of my day feels smooth and productive. I'm so glad I joined Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Newnan. I absolutely love it, and I’d highly recommend it to any of my friends and family. I can’t wait for the day when my son is ready, so he can join the kids’ classes.

I went for a trial class and the instructor Alex is awesome. He is very engaging and really wants everyone to give it their all and appreciate the art. I would recommend it for anyone even if you think it might not be for you just give it a try! He even says if it’s not for you it’s ok no pressure. Even as a younger women I felt confident and comfortable in a high contact sport.

Frequently Asked Questions

IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?

Yes! We invite you to come in and try a class at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Newnan at no cost. It's the best way to see if we're the right fit for you. Just show up in comfortable workout clothes.

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?

Absolutely not. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Newnan welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break everything down step by step, and our community is supportive and friendly to new students.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?

For your first visit, wear comfortable athletic clothing — a t-shirt and shorts or leggings work great. Once you decide to train regularly, we can help you get fitted for a gi (the traditional BJJ uniform).

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

We recommend starting with 2–3 classes per week to build a solid foundation without burning out. As you get more comfortable, many students train 4–5 days per week. Consistency is the key to progress in BJJ.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A BLUE BELT?

At Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Newnan, the average student earns their blue belt after 1–2 years of consistent training. Progress depends on how often you train, how you study the art, and your growth as a martial artist — not just time on the mat.
