About Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Brattleboro VT
At Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Brattleboro, we are a Certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Training Center offering authentic, curriculum-based instruction for men, women, and children of all experience levels. Located in Brattleboro, Vermont, our academy is built on the philosophy that confident humans make kinder humans — and that jiu-jitsu is one of the most powerful tools for building that confidence.
We teach the official Gracie University curriculum, developed to give every student — regardless of size, strength, or athletic background — the skills to defend themselves effectively. Our adult Gracie Combatives program provides a structured path from absolute beginner to confident practitioner, while our kids programs (Gracie Bullyproof Little Champs for ages 5–7 and Jr. Grapplers for ages 7–12) teach children to resolve conflicts without violence.
Women are especially welcome at our academy. Our Women Empowered program is specifically designed for women 13 and older, covering the self-defense techniques most relevant to real-world threats. For advanced students, the Master Cycle provides an ongoing deep dive into the full Gracie system. No experience is necessary to begin — just show up ready to learn.
Reviews
Gracie jiu-jitsu Brattleboro is the best! George is an amazing instructor and does so great with the kids. I have the chance to see him with both the little champs and the junior grapplers because both my boys are in jiu-jitsu. Nothing bad to say at all and I recommend getting your kids or your self signed up!
Fantastic, affordable and fun. George is a great welcoming and knowledgeable instructor. I went from having zero background in sports or martial arts and a ton of anxiety and self esteem around participating to loving every class I can go to.
Can't recommend this school highly enough. I started studying JiuJitsu here after taking an extended break from martial arts. I've found George to be a capable, knowledgeable, and skilled instructor who presents techniques with depth and humor. I can say he's also done a great job fostering a supportive and welcoming environment; the other folks in Adult Combatives class have been friendly, encouraging, and always ready to jump in and answer questions or offer help. Personally I enjoy the learning format of Combatives, learning the core principles of JiuJitsu as they apply to practical self defense before anything else, but it does mean focusing on learning basics first before jumping into sparring, so be ready for a long term focus on practice and drills. Bonus, you get access to Gracie University online, which is an amazing resource, and you can drop in for classes at any other Gracie gym (if you're traveling). Really awesome all round and so happy I decided to take the plunge and get back into martial arts, BJJ specifically, here. I feel more confident each week and honestly look forward to every lesson! If you're wondering if you might like it, drop in and give it a try. You get a trial period so you can drop in on a few classes. Win win. Do it!
I can't say enough good things about the jiu-jitsu classes here! My kids attend the Bullyproof class, and I've seen their confidence grow tremendously. The techniques are practical, and the kids have fun while learning valuable skills to stand up for themselves. I also take the adult combatives class, and it’s been incredible. George is an outstanding instructor—he's knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cares about each student's progress. He creates a supportive environment that’s both challenging and rewarding. Highly recommend for anyone looking to build skills, confidence, and community!
My son loves training here. George, the lead instructor, holds a very positive and welcoming energy. I have observed many classes and would recommend this program to any parent. The students are engaged and their instruction covers not only grapping techniques but character building life skills as well. George offers a risk-free 10 day trial. My son was hesitant at first to try a martial art - he committed immediately after his first class. I endorse with the highest enthusiasm. Great community!
