We absolutely love our Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy here in PTC. Professor Jorge is the absolute best and we are so lucky to have him! We’ve been training here for over two years now and plan to be here for many years to come. I originally stumbled upon jiu-jitsu and this academy by thinking it would be great for my kids (and it is!) but after watching just one of their classes I thought, “Omg I HAVE to do this!” and I haven’t looked back since. I value how Prof. Jorge has fostered a fun place to train while also keeping everyone safe. The academy is very family friendly (Prof. Jorge makes an effort to learn everyone’s names, even grandparents and cousins who come to watch their family members train) and the other instructors are great, too. There are many class options a week to attend for kids or adults, and private lessons available, too. We love it!

My son and I both have been at the academy for 4 years. I do not have enough good things to say about this place. Its always clean and well kept. Professor Jorge is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. The kids classes are structured wonderfully for introduction to the art, and the kids love Jorge as well. All around wonderful place to start or continue learning the art.

Fantastic group. Jorge is a class act, runs a safe and effective gym. Not an injury factory. Happiest part of my day is coming here. Recommend 10/10.

I've been training with Jorge for a couple months now and I have to say he's been an incredible instructor. I've learned so much and always feel incredibly welcome. Sometimes when I show up to practice, the children's class is just ending and the kids are all running around playing and you can tell how much they all adore Jorge. He's amazing with kids. Not only is he great with his students but he really takes the time to get to know the family and all their siblings as well.

Excellent environment to helping my son’s confidence flourish. Professor Jorge is phenomenal and creates a great environment for the children to work together and empower themselves

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art that emphasizes leverage and technique to control opponents through positions and submissions. It is effective for self-defense and is practiced as both an art and a competitive sport.

DO I NEED PRIOR MARTIAL ARTS EXPERIENCE?

No prior experience is necessary. Our beginner classes are designed to teach fundamentals to students starting from scratch, and our instructors will guide you through every step of your learning journey.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY FIRST CLASS?

Wear comfortable athletic clothing and bring a water bottle. We recommend arriving in casual clothes and changing into a gi, which you can purchase or rent from the academy once you decide to continue training.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

Training frequency depends on your goals and schedule. We recommend at least 2-3 classes per week for consistent progress, but beginners can start with once or twice weekly classes while building their foundation.

WHAT ARE THE BELT RANKINGS IN BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU?

The belt system progresses from white belt through blue, purple, brown, and black belt. Advancement is based on technical proficiency, time on mat, and instructor evaluation. Children have additional intermediate belts to accommodate their development.
