Very inclusive community. Everyone has gone above and beyond with helping a newbie. Professor Jason has a calm and professional demeanor. He will submit you while explaining it to the rest of the class.

If you have a little one and you're looking for a BJJ gym in the area I think this is the best place for getting your kido into BJJ. Coach Jerred and his assistants are amazing. The discipline is at higher level, which I really appreciate. We loved every minute we was there and made a lot of friends.

My son and I have trained at this school for two years. Professor Jason, Coach Jarred, and the rest of the crew are incredible instructors. There are a lot of high level students so it’s easy to progress, but the vibe is always chill and focused on self-improvement. I have trained at a lot of other schools as a visitor and I’m always happy to get back to my home gym. 10/10

Great atmosphere + amazing teaching. I've tried several gyms in the area and this is by far my favorite. The coaches have built an environment where everyone has a really positive friendly attitude and it helps us all improve together. From day one, this has been the most fun and addictive way of getting in great shape and developing a new skill I've ever found. The atmosphere makes me wake up excited to get to class. Professor Jason has a rare gift for clearly communicating and breaking down new techniques. Can't say enough good things about this gym.

I've been a member since February and haven't regretted one second of it. Professor Jason is a phenomenal instructor and takes his time with each student. He instructs in a way that makes it easy to understand the fundamentals. The higher ranked students are very patient with the white belts and always give out pointers and corrections. Overall, this is a tremendous environment to learn BJJ. It's great for both kids and adults. Professors' Bri, Alex, Peter and Brian are exceptional as well!

Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED EXPERIENCE TO START TRAINING BJJ?

Not at all! GB Issaquah welcomes complete beginners. We offer introductory classes specifically designed to teach the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a safe, supportive environment. Everyone starts somewhere, and our coaches will guide you every step of the way.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?

For your first visit, comfortable athletic wear such as shorts and a rash guard works perfectly. Once you train regularly, you'll want a gi (BJJ uniform). We train gi here — our coaches can point you toward the right gear.

IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?

Yes! We encourage you to try a class before committing. Contact GB Issaquah to schedule your complimentary intro class and experience our training environment for yourself.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN AS A BEGINNER?

Most beginners see strong progress training 2-3 times per week. Consistency matters more than volume early on. As your conditioning improves, many students increase to 4-5 sessions per week.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A BLUE BELT IN BJJ?

On average, dedicated students earn their blue belt in 1-2 years of consistent training. Progression depends on mat time, active learning, and open rolling. Each stripe reflects real skill growth.
