I really like this place. I don’t necessarily love jiu jitsu, but I love their coaching style. They are very gentle and patient with the kids. The coaches maintain a mutual level of respect with their students. They dedicate about two-minutes in each class to a discussion on values. They have assistant coaches so all the kids are being watched while they grapple. This cuts down on injury and helps the kids develop their techniques. They also play games that strengthen the kids’ reflexes and attention spans. It’s not all touchy-feely—the kids have to work. But students take pride in their accomplishments. Particularly when it’s an eleven-year-old girl taking down a grown man.
I’ve been training at Garden State Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for just about a year now, and during that time I’ve also had the chance to train at a few other gyms in between. Cross-training elsewhere has really solidified my appreciation for the level of professionalism and experience that Garden State has to offer. Both Coach Jullian and the owner, Coach Chris, are excellent — they truly run a high-level program built on technical knowledge, consistency, and respect. The coaching staff as a whole is knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated to helping every student improve, regardless of skill level. From what I’ve seen of the youth classes, the instructors are wonderful with the kids — engaging, positive, and able to make learning both fun and structured. The environment is welcoming, encouraging, and focused on growth both on and off the mats. I’m really grateful to be a part of this team and can honestly say Garden State BJJ sets the standard for what a great jiu jitsu academy should be.
Both of my daughters attend this club with great enthusiasm. They truly enjoy the positive and friendly atmosphere — they feel comfortable here, just like at home. I sincerely thank the coaches for their warmth, respect, patience, and understanding toward every child. You know how to motivate, support, and inspire. You are the best! I invite everyone to join! Here you will find support, understanding, and a place to develop both your body and mind. You will learn to manage your emotions, strengthen your character and confidence, and improve your physical fitness. This club is a place where children and adults grow, develop, and become stronger every day
I started training here earlier this year with no martial arts experience and Garden State was a great choice. The coaches and students alike are incredibly supportive and some of the friendliest people you’ll meet. The sense of community is super strong and training here is a blast. Mats are always clean and welcoming for training. Would recommend greatly if you are wanting to give BJJ a try.
I took my son to train at Garden State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu today, and he absolutely loved it! The atmosphere was energetic and welcoming, making it a great place for kids to learn and grow. Coach Julian is fantastic—he keeps the training high-level while also making it fun and engaging. You can tell he truly cares about his students and their progress. If you’re looking for a top-notch BJJ academy with great instruction and a positive vibe, this is the place to be. Highly recommend!
