About Fargo BJJ & Kickboxing Academy

At Fargo BJJ & Kickboxing Academy, we have been the premier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community in the Dakotas and western Minnesota since 2008. Founded by husband-and-wife black belts George Andersch and Sarah Andersch — both holding 4th Degree Black Belts — we built this academy to bring world-class BJJ instruction to the Fargo region. Our lineage traces directly to the Gracie family through renowned instructor Amal Easton, connecting us to the Renzo Gracie team and one of the most respected BJJ pedigrees in the world.

At Fargo BJJ, we believe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu transforms lives through Community, Excellence, and Grit. Our teaching staff includes over seven black belts, and we have produced more than 20 black belts from within our own program — a testament to the depth and consistency of our instruction.

We offer a full curriculum for all ages and experience levels: Fundamentals of BJJ for beginners, Advanced Jiu-Jitsu for developing competitors, Randori Open Mat for open practice, Training Circuit for experienced athletes, SHIELD (our Women's Fitness and Self-Defense program), Kids BJJ, and private lessons with our black belt coaches. Whether you are stepping on the mat for the first time or training for a national tournament, Fargo BJJ is where champions are built.

I travel a good amount for work and visit a lot of jiu jitsu gyms in my travels. This gym was as welcoming as any, clean, a good size and family friendly to boot. Over the years and travels I’ve learned that someone simply being a black belt or gym owner does not immediately come with the ability to teach well or have good morals, values or respect. George is the type of black belt gym owner that you want. He’s welcoming and kind, patient and respectful. I went to open mat and then watched him teach a beginners class to a wide array of experienced students.. and George did so with the ease of someone with tenure and a talent in teaching. He was beyond friendly and sweet to the young kids and class while also being supportive and patient to the new students and showing some more experienced students a bit more. If you’re living in Fargo and looking to start jiu jitsu, this is the place. If you’re traveling like me and looking for a good place to catch some great rolls and learn some different looks (shout out to black belts Dave for the fun rolls and new passes I’m taking home) this is the place. If I find myself back in Fargo, I’m going here: and you should too.

This gym is beautiful! Well kept facility. It is very clean. The instructors know the game well. They understand the small intricacies of the sport and genuinely happy to pass this knowledge onto you. I will be a year into my jiujitsu journey next month, starting March of 2024. They treated me with the upmost respect making me feel safe and accepted in the gym. If you are in Fargo I highly recommend checking this place out. You will not be disappointed. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned player definitely come check out Fargo BJJ academy!

The culture there is the gold standard. The owners have been training for nearly 30 years from a pioneer in the art. It's veteran owned which makes it easy for me to support.

I had the pleasure of dropping into Fargo BJJ while I was in town, and I can honestly say this gym is something special. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with positive energy and professionalism. Coach George is a phenomenal instructor—his attention to detail, passion for teaching, and ability to break down techniques for all skill levels is truly impressive. The classes are well-structured and welcoming to everyone. I especially appreciated the mix of technical drilling, and the emphasis on fundamentals. Coach George brings a unique intensity and wisdom to his coaching that motivates you to grow, push yourself, and have fun while doing it. The gym itself is clean, organized, and has a great training atmosphere. The team was incredibly friendly and made me feel like part of the family from day one. If you're ever in Fargo and looking to train, do not miss the chance to visit Fargo BJJ. Coach George and his crew are the real deal. I can’t wait to come back! 👊
