Our child has been a student at Chay's since he was 6, as a little ninja. He loves TKD. We saw our son grow in discipline, respect, and focus within months at home and in school as he began training at Chay's. The accountability he has with his instructors with the weekly practice and practice sheet has also been a huge benefit to have to give account for his work he has committed to. What you will notice at Chay's is the mentorship and the depth of experience in the instructors who studied here when they were young and are now leading. We are so thankful for the mentorship and training our son is receiving at Chay's.
My two boys have been attending Chay’s for the past three years. Master Chay and all the instructors are knowledgeable, professional, and kind to all students. They use class time very effectively and do an excellent job teaching self-discipline, respect, and responsibility, all while keeping the classes engaging and fun.
We approached Chay’s seeking opportunities for our children to grow in confidence and discipline. I appreciated the structure and challenge that I observed so much so that I stepped out of the element of anything I have done before and joined taekwondo myself. Now our household has participants in classes from Little Ninja all the way through adult classes. Truly, we have found Chay’s to be the place where everybody knows your name. They addressed each of our goals upon joining, and it is evident within our practice in the community that they remain supportive of them. Each of us is challenged, not only by the pace of class, but in taking responsibility for our own growth; all the while we are having fun sharing in this as a family. Master Chay’s presence (which is instilled in the leadership team and the camaraderie here) is one that demands respect, in a way that only lends to the value we recognize in our own efforts and in our relationships, one of our children even remarking with a full heart on the look in Master Chay’s eyes when he affirms a job well done. Indeed, I have witnessed growth in confidence and discipline in each of us throughout this year, serving us far beyond our taekwondo practice into every facet of life. Even our toddler has answered in encouragement of herself, “Focus my mind. Focus my body.”
I signed my 8 yr old son up in June for Tae Kwon Do, (my brother & cousin attended classes at Chay’s years ago) so I decided to bring him there. He loved it even after the 1st trial class. He instantly wanted to continue, so we signed him up for the year after finishing the trial classes. The instructors are amazing, my son has been instructed by all instructors & has been doing great! I like that they must turn in practice sheets every week & are held accountable for them. I, myself decided to try out the self defense class Krav Maga that is offered after seeing the beginning of those classes while my son was ending his classes. Everyone in that class seemed to enjoy it, so, I decided to try it even though it was out of my comfort zone. I was very nervous, but everyone, including the instructors were very welcoming at put me at ease. I also signed up for the year after the trial classes. I must add I am very out of shape & uncoordinated & they are very patient with me. I encourage anyone & everyone to try a few trial classes, you will not regret it! Shout out to Master Chay, Adam, Matt, Ross & those I may have forgotten.
So I started Tae Kwon Do at Chay's when I was 6. The main fundamentals they teach are discipline and respect. Everything I learned from Chay's-has helped me in one way or another. When I was 19, life he steered me in another direction and I had left. It has been 15 years and now I am back taking Krav Maga, but this time, I brought my son. I wanted my son to learn discipline and other skills that helped give me the self confidence growing up. In the last few months, my son has grown to love Tae Kwon Do. The instructors are top tier and extremely approachable and friendly. If you are looking to give yourself or your child the tools needed to create self confidence and discipline-while also having fun and learning a skill int the process.... Then I would HIGHLY recommend you give Chay's Tae Kwon Do a try. Now I take Krav Maga. If you are looking for a more straightforward approach to self-defense. This is the class for you. It is a fantastic workout (for those looking for that) but you are also learning skills that will help you handle any situation that you may be put in. The instructors (like on the Tae Kwon Do side) are highly skilled, friendly and approachable. You will always leave class with a sense of fulfillment. Master Chay has dedicated his life to creating the best learning environment at his school. He has trained his team to be the best and most knowledgeable instructors around. They always have you leaving class sweating, smiling and having learned something that day. So long story short. There are so many options out there for martial arts. There are these pop-up ones on every corner. But if you want real structure, knowledge and years of experience to back it. I would recommend you come give Chay's Tae Kwon Do a try.
Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?
Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Chay's Tae Kwon Do. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?
No experience necessary! Chay's Tae Kwon Do welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Most students at Chay's Tae Kwon Do train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.
