Reviews
We chose Carlson Gracie Academy after seeing so many positive online reviews, and we are very glad we did. Professor Tom and his entire team deserve two thumbs up. The academy has an amazing, welcoming vibe, and it is genuinely enjoyable to watch the kids train. It has been especially rewarding to see our son continuously improve his skills and confidence. We highly recommend this academy to any family looking for a positive and professional training environment.
Our daughter (19) and our son (11) started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu about two months ago, and they absolutely love it. My wife and I already feel like we have achieved most of what we were hoping for, because we had been searching for an activity we could all enjoy together as a family. Now we even find ourselves practicing in the living room during our spare time. Professor Tom and his team have been so great that I eventually signed up for classes as well, and I am encouraging my wife to join officially since she is already practicing at home with us.
We enrolled our son (9) and daughter (12) at this academy a little over a year ago and it's honestly been one of the best decisions we've ever made. The entire team has been instrumental in our children's success, both on the training mat and at competitions. My wife and I were both multi-sport athletes, but neither of us ever practiced or competed in combat sports so while we weren't sure what to expect, we both understood what effective teaching/training looked like. From the first day, it was evident that the team was focused on developing comfort and confidence in the new students. They were both immediately assigned to an experienced student who made them feel relaxed and walked them through both the drills and lessons over the next few days. They quickly went from being a little scared of joining a class full of students with varied experience levels to requesting to attend class every day of the week. Of all the extracurricular activities they had tried, this was the one that ignited their passion the most. The professor, Tom Cronin, and the entire team of coaches do an excellent job of keeping the kids engaged by balancing expectations with both fun and recognition. They have a great sense of each student and how to motivate them to excel. They also steer clear of pitfalls we were warned of by friends who have children attending other academies, specifically promotions based on attendance as opposed to merit. At this gym, the children are evaluated on their skills and ability to execute the requisite moves. This encourages them to excel instead of just casually participating. Within 9 months they had developed enough confidence to compete and we were blown away at how well they performed against the competition from around the country. Most importantly, they had a coach prepare them the week before with one on one training and he was the one who attended the competition to coach both of them through all of their matches. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for us, the academy doesn't just teach them BJJ, it reinforces core behaviors that we expect from our children - Respect, honor, and selflessness/teamwork. At the end of the day, we are all trying to raise the best humans we can and I can say with absolute confidence, that this academy is an integral part of that process for our children. I absolutely recommend Carlson Gracie, Temecula to anyone with any interest in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu.
3 of my kids, 8&10 (boys) and my oldest daughter (13) have been training BJJ for a year prior to starting at Carlson Gracie Temecula. Professor Tom and his team welcomed them with open arms. In the last 4 months, they all improved more than I could ever imagine. The biggest improvements has been with my boys. My 10 year old previous competed in four tournaments and only had two wins total. With just 4 months of quality training under Carlson Gracie Temecula, he won double gold at JJWL this month, and my 8 year old also won his first gold. My 13 year old daughter won her first double gold as a grey belt too. We started my 5 year old daughter in February and she also competed. She didn't medal but she won a match 23-2. The evidence speaks for itself.
Professor Tom and everyone here is so welcoming, respectful, and insanely good BJJ practitioners. Very clean facility with kind people and stellar instruction. I came in having 0 exposure to BJJ, just called and asked if they offered self-defense classes and Tom convinced me to come try. Thank you for positively impacting lives
