At Carlos Machado Jiu Jitsu Dickinson, we bring the world-renowned Carlos Machado BJJ system to the heart of western North Dakota. Carlos Machado is one of the legendary Machado brothers — direct cousins of Renzo Gracie and students of Rorion Gracie — whose lineage represents some of the purest roots of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in America. Training under the Carlos Machado name means you are connected to a tradition of technique, integrity, and excellence that has shaped the sport for decades.

We are proud to offer fun, safe, and affordable Jiu-Jitsu classes for children, teens, and adults in the Dickinson area. Our instructors have years of experience and are fully background-checked — we hold our team to the same standard required of school teachers in our community. Classes are built around technique, drilling, sparring, and games, creating a well-rounded experience that keeps students engaged and progressing at every level.

Our programs include children's classes starting at age 3, teen classes, adult training, an After-School Program, and a Summer Camp. We serve hundreds of happy families across the Dickinson area and we are always welcoming new students who are ready to start their jiu-jitsu journey.

By far, the BEST Jiu Jitsu school in the area, and the ONLY place to authorized to teach Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu. An amazing program that is geared to not only improve your Jiu Jitsu, self defense, and fitness, but also to improve yourself. Coach Tim tries to instill a "Black Belt Mentality" in every one of his students. He wants to see them succeed, not just in the mats, but in every aspect of their lives. Coach Tim has more than 25 years of experience teaching martial arts, and it shows in how dedicated he is to improving his students. Mrs. Liz is the backbone of the place. She is the CEO and Program Director. She takes a DEEP interest in every one of her student's life and well being. She cares for the children in her school as though they are her own family members. You can't ask for any better of an environment for your kids than that. If you are looking for a new activity for you, or your children, you would be doing yourself a disservice by looking anywhere else but here. Go in and take a trial class. You won't regret it.

Coach Tim and Ms Liz are wonderful with my kids. They're knowledgeable, patient, consistent and reliable. Never had any sanitation issues with the facility, as everything is always kept clean and disinfected. Ms Liz always greets all the kids as they walk in and coach Tim always acknowledges skills that has either been accomplished, as well as underdeveloped skills and how to reach goals. They're very hands on while teaching and my kids have both learned so much from both of them.

I cannot say enough good things about this location! My daughter joined in January (2021) when she was 5 and it's been almost 10 months. The skills she has gained, the confidence Coach Tim, Coach Bryce, and Mrs Liz give her. Just amazing!

When I was working in North Dakota I was able to train there. Carlos Machado Jiu Jitsu in Dickenson is an awesome place with a very friendly atmosphere. Great people that welcomed us as family. The Owner/ Instructor teaches the exact curriculum that Master Carlos Machado himself teaches. Mr. Tim Hartranft has a passion for Jiu Jitsu and the heart of a teacher. I can honestly say he loves and cares for his students and puts his heart and soul into helping them grow in knowledge and develop. He will travel several hours to coach them and is always full of encouragement and proud of them whether they win or lose. If you want your kids to learn discipline, respect, honor, self defense , better confidence and self esteem. Then I highly recommend going and training there. And its not only for Kids, its for Adults as well. You will definitely have a life changing experience!!

My family can’t say enough great things about this program! Our son started, and a few months later my daughter joined. We have loved watching them grow on the mats and off!
