About Bronx Martial Arts Academy

Bronx Jiu-Jitsu, located at 1621 Crosby Avenue in the Bronx, has been operating since 2012 as a family-owned and family-oriented academy. The gym offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in both gi and no-gi formats for children ages 4–16 and adults 17 and up, along with adult self-defense classes and periodic workshops.

The academy is led by the Ortega brothers — known to their students as Junior and Pabs — who are consistently praised by members for their patience, dedication, and genuine investment in each student's development. Their coaching style reflects the gym's broader philosophy: that martial arts builds life skills like confidence, discipline, and focus that matter far beyond the mat.

Bronx Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes that anyone can start — any age, any fitness level — and the welcoming atmosphere backs that up. Kids classes focus on courtesy, respect, and discipline, while adult programs blend high-intensity fitness with practical self-defense. The gym's family feel extends to the training floor, where students consistently describe being treated like family from day one.

Bronx Jujitsu is amazing! My son loves coming. The coaches are all great and owner Junior is also an AMAZING couch the will step in to spice up the classes. I recommend this place 100 percent to anyone that wants to get their kid into a sport they will love. We are waiting to for our 3yr old to turn 4 to have him join his brother. I highly recommend this Jiu Jitsu gym. The owner and coach is knowledgeable, dedicated, and truly committed to teaching each child techniques that build confidence and skill in the sport. My son has been training here for over a year, truly enjoys it, and has become a great competitor. This place is run with both love and discipline.

I would recommend this academy for anyone whether they are a beginner or a black belt. The mats are clean and the friendly atmosphere is conducive to learning and improvement while the coaches are approachable and profoundly knowledgeable about their craft. A particular stand-out among the staff is black belt coach Mike P. I took a few private lessons with him and noticed considerable improvement in my technique and overall grasp of fundamental BJJ tenets.

My dad signed me up for classes and encouraged me to try it out. From the first day, I liked being there and learning Jiu-Jitsu. The training partners and staff are friendly, which makes it easier for me to improve, and that makes the experience even better. I really love it.
