At Blue Wave Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, we are dedicated to sharing the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the New Hampshire community. Our academy provides a structured, welcoming training environment for students at every stage — from first-timers stepping on the mat for the very first time to experienced grapplers sharpening their competitive game.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a ground-based martial art that uses leverage, timing, and technique to neutralize larger, stronger opponents. Whether your goal is self-defense, physical fitness, stress relief, or stepping onto the competition podium, BJJ offers one of the most complete and rewarding martial arts paths available. Our class offerings include Adult, Child, covering a range of skill levels and training goals.

We take pride in our coaches' ability to break down complex techniques into clear, learnable progressions. Our curriculum is built to give students a strong fundamental base before introducing more advanced positions and finishing sequences. Training here means joining a community that genuinely supports one another on and off the mat.

My boys have been enjoying the classes. They also offer private lessons which my 7 and 9 year both do and have voiced how very helpful for them it’s been to better do and understand the moves they have learned during the week. Overall, we as parents have been very impressed with the flow of the classes and how all the coaches interact and encourage the students. My nephew who’s 4 has joined as well and he loves it.

I'm writing this review from the perspective of a parent and also as one who has joined as a student brand new to the style. As a parent on the sidelines, I've watched Dasha and Jimmy train my five year old with such gentleness and patience. They made my son feel welcomed on the mat and whenever he struggled with a new move or drill, they were there at his side coaching him and helping him achieve the goal based on his personal needs. The atmosphere is comfortable, clean, and open concept. They have such a great set up to watch the kids performing the moves, that it inspired me to get on the mat myself! As a healthcare worker whose schedule is all over the place, their classes are geared to be flexible to fit my chaotic family/work life. As someone who is brand new, I have found a great community of people who have come around me to help me get better and make me feel like I'm one of the pack. The culture they embody is a breath of fresh air because they foster a culture of respect and continuous improvement. Jimmy had told me on my second class, "We're all here to help each other and if one of us is struggling, then we're all struggling and our goal is to help one another." They've restructured, in my mind, what a "good partner" should look like not just on the mat but also outside when we're not training. Great place, great teachers, great atmosphere! I highly recommend!

Our 5 year old has been training at blue wave for over 2 years. Today when we dropped him off at school the gym Teacher said “Oh! He is the best. He’s so kind, respectful, and sweet.” As parents we completely attribute this to jiujitsu. Our 3 year old has been training for about 1 year. He had his first gymnastics class two weeks ago and it was like herding cats. He and one other child were the only ones following directions and participating, while the instructor continuously had to abandon them to go round up the others!!The second week of class was better but even still our kiddo was the first in line leading the way! As painful as it is at times between them not wanting to go, us not wanting to go, or just life being busy, both of our kids have grown immeasurably through their time at blue wave in participating in class structure in general, but also being respectful and following directions.

Just here to add another 5 star review. My oldest daughter is the sit-and-craft type. She will be an amazing jewlery designer one day. But it's important to move your body and my husband and I have tried to get her into every active thing imaginable - but outside of skiing, she is a hard pass. Either she doesn't want to, she gives up when it gets challenging, or (my particular favorite) she's interested but won't do it because the coach is a "man." After watching a particularly hilarious episode of "Reba" where Cheyenne wipes the floor with Van, my old-soul-drinks-her-tea-and-knits 8-year-old daughter asked to "take self defense." Cool. We're in. After reading reviews and considering distance relative to our house, we decided to give Blue Wave a try. From the very first day, our daughter has absolutely loved it. My husband, sometimes anti-social and often aloof, also loves it, telling me how friendly everyone is. If there is something to complain about, this guy will sniff it out and I have not heard a single negative thing come from either of them. The "second family" review is absolutely accurate. This kiddo went from refusing any and all classes with "men" to trying the moves with the male coaches and singing their absolute praises at home. And I can't keep her away from the gym. She wants to be there 45 minutes early and if it were up to her, she'd be there 7 days a week. The coaches have set a warm and encouraging tone at the gym, and the reports I get are that you can clearly feel it's different there (we have 4 kids and have been in the area 10 years, so we've tried most of the things here). As for nitty-gritty details, we love their sick policy, and we love that they have 3 coaches in the kids' classes, which gives plenty of time for individual attention. They play a lot of games to help develop skills, strength, and agility, but there is also plenty of time for actual hands-on practice and sparring. If you're considering BJJ in Southern NH, just go ahead and head to Blue Wave. You won't be sorry.

Can’t say enough great things about this place. The owners are a Husband and Wife team and Very family oriented, as they have several young kids themselves. The Vibe is very Professional and feels like a second family. There are no cliques or super aggressive people. You can tell as soon as someone walks through the door that they are here to Train. All coaches have great patience and strive to encourage the children to give their best. Coach Dasha is really great with the kids classes. She learns all the kids names very quickly, she is always giving positive motivation and encouraging the kids to be a team and be apart of the Blue Wave family. She constantly tries to instill confidence in them. She puts out informative newsletters to keep you updated on upcoming weeks classes and any changes. I really appreciate these because life is busy enough to remember everything in our day to day. We have been going since their old location. The new spot is a lot bigger with more Matt space. Coach Jim deals with most of the adult classes. He is very very knowledgeable. You can tell he’s very passionate about his craft and wants to share his knowledge and wisdom. I have stayed with my son after his kids class finished and watched 15 minutes of the adult class to show my son what he can achieve and see progression as he gets older. This is how I can speak on coach Jim. He’s got many years of experience and has done several years in the UFC. He is very humble about his skills and does not boast or act Cocky. He loves to improve his students and make corrections so that they are learning what they need to. I’m very glad we chose this Gym and can’t wait to see how far my son goes along this journey.
