My son and daughter only went to Bill Stevens Karate for a few months, but we saw a huge improvement in their confidence and ability to focus. We really appreciate the kindness and encouragement from Bill and his staff to my kids!

Main instructor is patient and fair, but also firm. Absolutely perfect balance for instilling discipline while maintaining a positive environment. The assistant instructors are also amazing; they say kids today don’t like to work but every assistant shows complete attention and care to their job every minute of the class. Liked it so much for our first kid we signed up our second kid.

The best Karate school in all of Bergen County!!! My 6 year old has been going there for the last 2 years and is the happiest when he is in class with his Karate Buddies. Bill is a fantastic coach, works super hard and is extremely patient with all his students! Couldn’t recommend them enough.

Master Bill is fantastic with everyone that walks through his doors. My son had behavior issues before attending classes with Master Bill, and now he is so much more behaved. My son is always excited to attend class. Our dealing with Master Bill as a parent has been amazing as well. I highly recommend attending class for any age. Brian Lowe

Bill Stevens is a great Karate coach for kids. Our kid loved his class, and insisted to come twice a week despite we sometimes would have a schedule conflict. Bill, in my opinion, invest a lot of time to make his class fun and educative. It’s not just a karate class, but a life lesson to teach the kids discipline while keeping them entertained. Thank you Sensei!

Frequently Asked Questions

IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?

Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Bill Stevens Karate. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?

No experience necessary! Bill Stevens Karate welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?

For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

Most students at Bill Stevens Karate train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.

DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?

We primarily serve adult students. Please contact us directly to ask about availability for younger students — we're happy to point you in the right direction.
