Awesome place to train. Great coaches, both for kids and adults. The community here is amazing! Everyone is looking out for others and helping each other grow. Never felt like I was belittled or to "get better." If you are looking for a safe, positive, and family friendly place to train, whether your just getting started or have years of experience Aurora BJJ is the place to go!
The instructors at Aurora BJJ are amazing and care about the safety and well being of their students. Mike and Sammie are great with kids of all ages. I consider myself a patient person, they are more patient. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Cleanliness and hygiene are a priority for them. The students are all stand-up great people in the community. Some love competing, others don't. All are equal. It's a very welcoming environment and questions are encouraged. Many of us are in our 30's and 40's. My kids have been practicing jiu-jitsu for 4 years now and absolutely love it. They are constantly being challenged and have shown great growth. I have been practicing for 2 1/2 years now. Other facilities may be closer (I drive from a neighboring town), but can't imagine changing.
Dropped in for my first class here today and had such a great time! Everyone had a great attitude and was very welcoming. Mike did a fantastic job on his teachings and instructions. I will be returning soon and definitely recommend this gym to everybody interested in Jiujitsu!
The facility is always clean! The coaches from kids to adults are highly skilled and knowledgeable in the art. Jiu-jitsu has helped my daughter and I gain confidence while learning a skill set that could potentially save our lives if an incident were to occur. Everyone is welcoming with a family atmosphere.
Great place for you or your kids to learn/practice BJJ. Dedicated owners that are always pulling for their students to succeed. They also understand life happens and youth sports can take you in another direction, but are always so welcoming when time allows you to return.
Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?
Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Aurora BJJ. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?
No experience necessary! Aurora BJJ welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Most students at Aurora BJJ train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?
Yes! We offer dedicated programs for children and teens at Aurora BJJ. Our youth classes focus on discipline, respect, confidence-building, and the fundamentals of BJJ in a safe, fun environment.
