ATOS is truly world-class. High-level training, amazing coaches, and a professional environment that pushes you to improve every single day. You’re surrounded by elite athletes but still feel welcome no matter your level. If you want real evolution in jiu-jitsu, this is the place to be.
Atos Where respect is trained, and the soul breathes Some places teach you technique. Others teach you how to be. Atos is both. From the first step onto the mat, I felt I wasn’y just entering a school I was entering a community that honors effort, presence, and respect. Here every correction Is a gift. Every fall, on opportunity. Every training partner, a mirror. The standards are high, yes, but they’re wrapped in a warmth that holds you. It’s not just about winning, it’s about understanding, growing, and belonging. As someone who crosses bordes between countries, professions, emotions finding a space like Atos is finding a place where the body strengthens and the heavy finds calm. I’m deeply grateful for every class, every gesture, every silence that teacher. Thank you, Atos for receiving me with firmness and soul.
Visiting San Diego from the Philippines specifically to train at this modern academy. World champions in each and every class willing to help you learn. Now I cannot imagine training Jiu-jitsu anywhere else! I’ll definitely be back to San Diego often, the Atos community treats everyone like family. Simply, the #1 Jiu-jitsu school in the World.
My son did a drop-in when we visited San Diego. It was a very competitive atmosphere and a very good kids' program with lots of good info. Highly recommended if you want your kids to level up; we will definitely be back. We had Professor Arthur; he ran a great class.
This review is long overdue... In 2022, at the age of 50, after a 10 year layoff from jiu jitsu due to my commitments in corporate Korea, I decided to end my corporate career in Korea and restart my jiu jitsu journey. But plagued with a history of injuries, I wanted to get my jiu jitsu to a level where training with anyone young or old would be easier than it had been in the past. To achieve this goal I needed to learn from the most talented jiu jitsu practitioners in the world and my research led me here to Atos HQ. After seeing Andy Murasaki's double gold performance as a brown belt at the Pan American Championships on Youtube, I knew that Atos HQ was where I wanted to train in order to achieve my goals so I dusted off my old purple belt, packed my bags and moved to San Diego from Korea to restart my jiu jitsu journey. From day 1, the professors, students and staff were very welcoming and friendly -- genuinely making me feel like I was part of the team. The one thing that stood out at Atos HQ besides the super effective and efficient jiu jitsu was that the black belt professors not only taught the classes but also trained with their students during the sparring session. Based on my experience, this is not common practice especially in such a world class gym. In most academies the black belt professors will lead the general classes and train in the competition class only but here at Atos HQ, you have the opportunity to roll with world class black belts like Andy Murasaki, Jonnatas Gracie, Rolando Samson, Rafael Silveira, Joao Mendes and Gustavo Batista where they roll with you at 'your' speed then help fix your mistakes and improve your game after the roll which has been vital in helping me improve my jiu jitsu. In my many years of training, I have met some of the greatest athletes in jiu jitsu. I have noticed that many let their fame get to their heads but here at Atos HQ, all the world champions I have met have been genuinely good people so it has been easy to make friends here. Whether you're new to jiu jitsu, coming from another academy, or restarting your journey after a long layoff like I did, this is one of the best places to train in the world and the best city to live in the U.S. in my opinion.
Frequently Asked Questions
IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?
Absolutely. We invite all prospective students to try their first class free at Atos. It's the best way to experience our training environment, meet our coaches, and see if BJJ is right for you. No experience or equipment needed — comfortable athletic clothing is fine.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START?
No experience necessary! Atos welcomes complete beginners. Our instructors break down every technique step by step, and our community is known for being welcoming and patient with new students. Everyone starts as a white belt, and that's exactly where you should start too.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS?
For your first visit, comfortable athletic clothing works perfectly — a t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants. Once you commit to training regularly, you'll want to invest in a gi (kimono). Our coaches can recommend quality options at a range of price points.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?
Most students at Atos train 2 to 3 times per week and see consistent progress. Showing up regularly matters far more than training intensely once in a while. We offer multiple class times throughout the week so you can find a schedule that fits your life.
DO YOU OFFER CLASSES FOR KIDS?
We primarily serve adult students. Please contact us directly to ask about availability for younger students — we're happy to point you in the right direction.
