I’ve trained BJJ for 2 years, visited 20 gyms, and Providence BJJ is hands down my favorite. It is the most community centered and inclusive jiu jitsu gym I’ve ever encountered. It’s also incredibly clean and a beautiful space. We travel ~3 hours round trip to train here about once a month. It just doesn’t get any better. We love you PVD BJJ! Thanks for setting the example of what jiu jitsu community can truly be 🌟

Great place with amazing coaches/teachers. My sons love it here! Marco is very well educated on Jiu-jitsu, and very patient. I would totally recommend this place.

I’m a teacher at Pvd prep Charter and we took a group of 7th and 8th graders on a 2 day training. Confidence, self esteem, self respect, and respect amongst peers was gained. Unforgettable experience for these kids, and myself .

I've been training here a few times a week for about 2 years. Prof. Marco is a gifted teacher and martial artist. The students are welcoming, diverse, and kind. Everyone here takes their training really seriously, but we have a lot of fun and treat each other with respect. If you're even a little curious about BJJ, but worried it will be toxic or that you'll get roughed up, come try it out. This is a really great group of people.

I was very lucky to drop in for a class while visiting my family in Providence. Teachers and facilites are above any expectations you can have. Super clean and inclusive dojo. Good sense of community and the methodology they teach JJ is very professional and inclusive to any color belt. learned a lot in very few time. 100% recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions

IS THERE A FREE TRIAL CLASS?

Yes! We welcome anyone curious about BJJ to come in for a complimentary trial class at Armory Jiu Jitsu. No experience is necessary β€” just wear comfortable workout clothes and bring a positive attitude. We'll have you on the mats learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fundamentals from day one.

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START TRAINING?

Absolutely not. Armory Jiu Jitsu welcomes complete beginners and our coaches are specifically trained to bring new students up to speed. Our beginner curriculum covers the core positions, escapes, and submissions at a pace that lets you build real skills without feeling overwhelmed. Most of our students started with zero grappling background.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR OR BRING TO MY FIRST CLASS?

For your first visit, just wear clean athletic clothing β€” board shorts and a rash guard or a t-shirt and leggings work great. We recommend leaving jewelry at home and trimming your fingernails and toenails for everyone's safety. If you decide to continue training, we'll help you get fitted for a properly sized gi.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN TO SEE PROGRESS?

Consistency is the key to improvement in BJJ. We recommend training a minimum of two to three times per week to build muscle memory and see steady progress. That said, even training once a week is better than not training at all, and we have members at Armory Jiu Jitsu at every frequency. Our coaches will work with your schedule to build a training plan that fits your life.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GI AND NO-GI BJJ?

Gi BJJ is practiced wearing a traditional uniform (the gi), which allows for grips on the collar, sleeves, and pants β€” creating a slower, more technical style of grappling. No-gi BJJ is practiced in shorts and rash guards, with no gi grips, which tends to be faster-paced and more focused on clinch control and leg attacks. At Armory Jiu Jitsu, we offer training in both formats and believe cross-training in each makes you a more complete and well-rounded grappler.
