I came to Empire after trying four different gyms, and I can confidently say it’s the best gym in Rochester. I signed up for the unlimited membership ($250), which lets you attend as many classes as you want, and I took Muay Thai, jiu-jitsu fundamentals, and combat conditioning. Muay Thai with Coach Wally was phenomenal. That’s primarily why I joined, and the intro class was excellent. He balances running the class while still giving individual attention and making sure you’re developing properly. Sparring/rolling isn’t rushed either. You’re cleared by the coaches once they feel you’re ready. Jiu-jitsu fundamentals with Coach Chris was the best BJJ instruction I’ve had. Instead of just surviving rolls, he teaches real concepts like leverage, escapes, and positioning. The warm-ups and explanations are detailed and purposeful, and it made everything click much faster for me. Combat conditioning with Coach Rodney was the most intense workout I’ve done in a long time. If you’re serious

Coach Chris Herzog is actually world-renowned for his combat sports involvement. I have trained throughout Asia, Africa, Europe and ALL through North, Central and South America; you would not believe how martial artists are very familiar with Herzog (from all over the world). The level of DETAILS for intricate advanced techniques makes me homesick when I am not in Rochester, New York training... Oss

If anyone in the Rochester area has been thinking about stepping into an MMA gym, Empire is the one you wanna go to. You'll get a chance to train with people just starting their martial arts journey to seasoned fighters that hold titles from notable promotions. The coaches embody what it means to be a fighter by having lived it themselves and also know how to instill it in their students. Also if you wanna do Jiu-Jitsu, 10th Planet is the way!

Best martial arts gym in Rochester. Coaches are a wealth of knowledge and excellent instructors. Been going to Empire for 6 years and whether you want to become a fighter or just learn/perfect a new skill, it’s a great gym for both.

Been a member going on 4 years. Empire is for everyone. Fighters, casual training, people looking to lose weight. They do an excellent job of keeping structure and making everyone feel equally important; From the professional fighters, to the newcomers. My best friendships have come through this gym and it's just from going to classes, talking to people, meeting all sorts of new people with the one same goal;bettering themself. Strongly suggest this gym to anyone trying to do the same!
